For Christmas, I gave Josephine a little pink spotlight lamp from IKEA. It's on an adjustable neck, and of her own accord, she quickly figured out how to aim it onto this journal...
... so that the light would reflect off the walls in sparkles. I was impressed and told her about disco balls. "There is an entire industry devoted to reflecting sparkles off walls!" I said.
To which she quickly replied, "I want a disco ball!"
Well, I made that bed, didn't I? And so even though the request wasn't repeated, and she'd forgotten about it I found out today, I decided it was exactly the sort of thing that would float her boat...

Today, at her birthday party here in Austin with a couple friends, we gave her the ball as a joint gift. She was delighted. Naturally, impromptu disco dancing ensued, thanks to Sarah's handy iphone's access to music.
Little too bright in the room this afternoon to have the full effect, but they still enjoyed it. (And tonight while I stepped in the backyard to address the weed issue, I noticed whenever I poked my head in that disco sparkles were reflecting onto the landing... So I know she has experience the full-sparkle-effect now.)

There was a modest spread of snack items, and "goodpop" popsicles were the main feature, since I didn't have time to find a recipe that could appease the diet restrictions of both my kids.
No one complained.
The party favors magically matched the remaining flowers from a bouquet Darla brought me:

It was especially good seeing Zanna and Josephine together, as it's been a very long time since they've gotten to play. We'll certainly miss her, her brother, and Julien when we move in June. I love that they've known each other since being babies.
Thankfully, Austin's not that far-- they will still see each other, for sure.
Beautiful weather and sweet friends. Made for a lovely little birthday celebration!
Pics coming soon from the party in Teague and the upcoming version in Bedford...
