did not get the memo
Because this morning when he went outside to play he spent no small amount of time looking extremely disoriented.
Finally came to the back door and in two-year-old speak very sweetly and confusedly asked, "Where tomatoes?"
"You collected them ALL last night. You got them all."
"oh."
"maybe gather something else like rocks or nuts?"
"oh, okay."
Instead, he is filling the water gun with leaves. Which must be genetic.

a couple misc. photos...
Clement and Josephine are both still very much bookworms. When I went to get the camera for the above photo, Clement was lying on his stomach looking at the book, which I always find adorable, but when I came back he was sitting.
He seems to especially enjoy pointing out elephants; that's probably what he's smiling at here.
The other day he stacked a few Legos and decided it was an elephant; one was a bit longer than the others (trunk appendage, you see). He carried it around all morning, even to the store. While at the store, a piece came off and he stuck it on in a different place that made the whole thing look decidedly more like a rectangle than an elephant. So I pointed out, "Well, that doesn't look like an elephant anymore. Maybe a wall?"
Bad move. He was EXTREMELY unhappy with me. I was incorrect in my assessment of the new structure. Still an elephant.
My friend, Stacey, had a birthday Thursday so she and Julien came over for dinner tonight. Good fun. We opened the windows to let in the cold air so we could excuse a fire in the fireplace, which delighted Clement far more than the other two, who were highly entertained chasing after each other all evening.
Made for a lively evening! (And kids so tuckered that I haven't heard a peep since closing their bedroom doors!)
Happy Halloween
| The ghost costume that was perfectly acceptable two days prior... no longer acceptable. |
| Question: Do two year olds even need to dress up for Halloween? Perhaps just a t-shirt that reads "I'm 2." would be frightening enough. |

I did hear Clement say "Trick or Treat" at the last house he went up to. And despite the fact that he couldn't eat any of the candy, he seemed content to play with the packages, in variations on make-believe Trick or Treating with Josephine for the next couple evenings.
Josephine had some of her candy in a self-designed program of replacing fruit every other dinner for a week.
The "Switch Witch" has since conned them out of the remainder of the crack and replaced it with a half-price Melissa and Doug toy scored from Ross, which they both enjoy. How wholesome!
Except now it's the Switch Witch eating all the candy herself... bit less wholesome! But pretty fair payment for repurposing some old pillowcases and mosquito netting. :) I'll take it.
